I received this photograph of a Wheatley Hill pit token from Anthony of Shotton. It shows a typical brass pit token. They were used to account for the men working in the pit. One token was given to the banksman on the way down the pit and the other was given to the banksman coming out of the pit. When working at Thornley I remember that the token going down was a five sided token and the one for returning to the surface was brass similar to the photograph.
