Pat Sandham sent me this photograph and shows her mother Eva Wharrier (nee
Bowes), she is the lady in the middle behind the cake. I'm not sure what the
celebration was but since there are no gentelmen present I can only assume that
it was something to do with the Mother's Club. Everyone has a carnation and the
cake must be in celebration of a special event.
Update from Don Armstrong - Regarding this months photo of the ladies at
some special function, I can add a couple of details.
First, My mother, Mary Alice Armstrong is in the back row 2nd from the
right.
Next, the lady in the front row immediately left of the cake is
Elizabeth (Lizzie) Hutchinson. Her husband Bob was manager of Newmans
Fruit and Vege Store on the Front Street.
Third, the lady at the left end of the front row is Alice Woodward,
mother of the late Peter Woodward.
I believe the group would be the Womens Institute because, a) Lizzie
Hutchinson had no children, and b) I know all the above ladies were
members of the WI, but not of the Mothers Club.
Unfortunately I cannot tell you what the occasion was.
