I received this photograph from Bruce Lindsay and shows his grandfather taken about 1949.
Thomas Lindsay born in Sunderland in 1871, his father a Mariner. At age 10 years he started at Haswell Colliery as a Pit Boy but the principal part of his mining life was spent at Wheatley Hill Colliery from where he retired at age 65 years after 55 years in the mines. He died in1949 after living over 50 years in W.Hill at age 78 Years. He lived as a Widower for many years at 2 Peterlee Cottages - directly opposite the Senior Girls School where his garden was much admired for its show of flowers.
