I received this photograph from John Winter and it shows (from L-R, back) Billy Redfern, My father, Johnny Winter and my uncle Alb (Albert Winter). I am in the front.I guess this picture was taken about 1948-9 and is unusual in that it shows Billy Redfern standing up – notice my Dad’s protective hand.
We had walked to Haswell Plough, pushing Billy in his chair. He had been wheelchair bound after breaking his back in a mining accident at Sherburn Hill pit.
Notice also my Dad’s lapel badge – a dart! He was renowned for his skill with the arrows.
