This is a photograph from Jennie Parker (nee Brain) via Allan Fulcher. It shows the Wheatley Hill Sunday School. Jenny's daughter Linda is second from left. I think this may have been the Wesleyan Sunday School.

Update from John Orchard - The lady on the left is Irene Lincoln who married Alan Lincoln who was a surveyor for the NCB and ended up working for the Easington District Council. The lady on the right is Joan Shut, Irenes sister. Joan's husband was Alan who died of a heart attack in 1977/78. Joan and Alan at one time had the flower shop in the Front Street next to Dewhurst butchers. They moved the flower shop down the road to Thornley closer to the old Co-op store used to be but Joan has since sold the shop.

Update from Karen Hays 3rd from the right is Marjory Foster who is the cousin of Karen's mother. Marjory's father was Tommy Foster who had the wood yard. Marjory had a brother Richard and a sister June. Tommy has since passed away but Marjory's mother Edith still lives in the village.

A little note about the photograph from Jennie Parker taken outside the Wesleyan Sunday School,  It's not!! -  It's actually taken outside the Doorway on to Patton Street of the Methodist Chapel at the top of Patton Street! -  after walking past that doorway for the best part of my school years up till leaving school en route to Lynne Terrace I'd recognise it anywhere! - 20 yards further down that pavement down to the left of the photo would be Jenny Carrs shop!  - The window just out of view to the right of the doorway in the picture was always vandalised with it being on street level and ended off being bricked up.
