I receive this photograph from Tony Foster and shows Sally Smiles standing outside her caravan where she used to sell sweets at the top of Grainger Street next to Elizabeth Street about the 1930's. Sally was Tony's father's Aunt and she had a son Peter. Sally died about 1949. The caravan she used was her sweet shop but she didn't live in it.

Additional information about Sally's family from Lynne Heslop and if anyone would like to contact her she is at lynne.heslop@googlemail.com

Hi my name is Lynne Heslop
I am married to Robert Heslop who is the grandson of Peter Smiles, son of Sally Smiles; Peter also had one sister called Annie.  He married Barbara Hall from Shotton.  They had five daughters and one son that died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) more commonly known as cot death.  Four of the five sisters are now dead, they were Elizabeth, Gladys, Sally, Laura Isobel and Florence May' Flo is still alive and lives abroad.
Gladys, Bobs mother, married William Brown Heslop who died approximately 9 months after Bob was born, Bob was born in 1950.  Bo's mother did not want her son to go down the pit or go into the army as his father had so she moved him and her father Peter to North Yorkshire where Bob has lived ever since; more or less.  Hope that helps a little?  Really enjoyed looking through the history pages and look forward to hearing from you if you so wish?  bye for now Lynne.

Additional information from Charlotte Young, Tony Fosters Granddaughter.

Sally Smiles was born Sarah Ann Roper in 1867, daughter of Peter Roper and Ann. She married Robert Smiles (born 1861) in 1883.
