I received this photographs from James Jackson and shows his Grandfather John Thomas Bell on the left. He used to live in Spennymoor and worked as a blacksmith in the foundry at Tudhoe and moved to Wheatley Hill in the early 1900's. At one point he had a fruit and vegetable  round and may have worked at the pit. James's mother was born in Arne Street and went to school in he village at least until 1927. John Thomas later worked as a blacksmith/farrier at Thornley Colliery with James's Uncle Bill Hoban as his apprentice.
