The following photographs are of Jimmy Ryan who was my father in law. He was born in Thornley but moved to Wheatley Hill via Peterlee living in John Street and then Johnson Estate. Jimmy was a hard worker working at Thornley Colliery and liked a couple of pints and also liked a game of cards while in the pub. He worked at Thornley and passed away in 1969 at the age of 48 from stomach cancer. He had been in the army during the Second World War and fought in North Africa and through Italy under General Montgomery.

This one may have been taken in Italy or somewhere in North Africa.

Looks like North Africa

Not sure where this was taken

Must have been taken in a photo booth.
