These photographs are from my wife's late mother Jean Ryan's photo album. The first shows Jimmy Ryan, Jeans husband with daughter Margaret Ryan (my wife) probably in the early 1950's next to the black path on the way to Thornley. The two horses shown were probably store horses which used to pull the deliver carts filled with groceries to the folks in the village from the Sherburn Hill Co-operative on Thornley road. Someone would come around with a book listing lots of groceries and the co-op would deliver them on a Monday.
