I received this photograph from Dawn Morrison and shows a contestant in the fancy dress contest for the May Day parade. I don't know the man's name but he was from Shotton. During the parade from the Half Way House to the football ground he would stop and chase the children and they would all scatter. With living in Shotton he would sometimes walk across the moors to get to the carnival but on one occasion he bumped into a few kids out for a walk...they were frightened and headed for home as fast as their legs would carry them. He came year after year and he would go through the same antics every year. I'm not sure how he managed to clean all that makeup off!!!!

Update from Belle Tuttle from Thornley.....Zulu name was George Copeland a shotfirer from Shotton
